Crossroads
The road through life will twist and tease,
crammed full with dire uncertainties.
And even when you think you've got,
it all worked out, the plan and plot.
That's when you'll think, 'a rat I smell',
just as this little tale will tell.
I reached a crossroad on my way,
which way to go I could not say.
For on the sign it said quite clear,
this way to heaven, have no fear.
But by its side another said,
this way to hell; land of the dead.
And then another white and stark,
proclaimed a flashing question mark.
I stood aghast in fear and fright,
for should I turn to left or right.
Or should I take, (maybe goodbye)
the road ahead to live or die.
For all the signs were spinning round,
in eerie manner, not a sound.
With trembling hands and silent prayer,
I tossed a coin into the air.
It never fell but hung in space,
then disappeared without a trace.
So here's the moral, plain and true,
You’re on your own, what e'er you do.
So step out strong and do what's right,
do not divert, nor doubts invite.
And keep in mind truths universal
that life on earth is no rehearsal.
